Fatal Crash on Gaya-Patna Highway Claims Two Lives

A tragic road accident on the busy Gaya-Patna National Highway (NH-22) claimed two lives and left one person seriously injured on Wednesday morning. The collision involved a speeding truck and a motorcycle in the Jehanabad district.

Victims Identified as Construction Workers

According to police officials, the deceased have been identified as Deepu Kumar, aged 28, and Dhananjay Kumar, aged 27. Both were residents of Masaurhi in Patna district and worked as construction labourers at a local cement warehouse. The injured person, Cheeku Kumar, also hails from Masaurhi.

Sequence of Events and Police Response

The accident occurred near a petrol pump. Cheeku Kumar, in his statement to the police, said, "We are employed at a cement warehouse and were on our way to Jehanabad for some work when the truck hit us."

Upon receiving the alert, personnel from the Kadauna police station rushed to the spot. They immediately transported the injured Cheeku Kumar to Jehanabad Sadar Hospital for initial treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for advanced care.

The police sent the bodies of the two deceased for post-mortem examination before handing them over to their grieving families.

Driver Absconds, Case Registered

The truck driver fled the scene along with the vehicle, leaving behind the victims. Assistant Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar of Kadauna police station provided details on the ongoing investigation.

"Preliminary findings point to reckless driving as the primary cause of this fatal accident. We have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver and efforts are on to trace and apprehend him," stated the officer.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving on national highways, leading to calls for stricter enforcement of traffic rules.
