Tragic Head-On Collision in Ramanathapuram Claims Three Family Members
A devastating road accident near Kamudhi in Ramanathapuram district has resulted in the tragic deaths of three family members. The incident occurred on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.

According to police sources, the victims were identified as Solaiyan, 55, his wife Vijayalakshmi, 60, and their son Solai Selvam, 30, all residents of Thummuchinnampatti. The family was returning home after offering prayers at their local temple in Thummuchinnampatti. They were traveling from Kamudhi to Aruppukottai on the Aruppukottai-Sayalkudi Road when the tragedy struck.
At approximately 9:30 AM, as their car approached the junction at Ayyanarkulam village, a sudden event unfolded. The car swerved to avoid hitting a motorcycle that unexpectedly crossed its path. This evasive maneuver caused the vehicle to crash head-on into an oncoming SUV traveling in the opposite direction. The impact was severe, leading to a catastrophic collision.
Aftermath and Medical Response
The SUV driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the victims in critical condition. All three family members sustained serious head injuries in the collision. Nearby residents rushed to the scene, rescuing the injured and transporting them to Kamudhi Government Hospital for emergency medical attention.
At the hospital, doctors pronounced both Solaiyan and his son Solai Selvam dead upon arrival. Their bodies were subsequently sent to Paramakudi Government Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Vijayalakshmi was initially transferred to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for advanced treatment due to the severity of her injuries. Despite receiving specialized care, she succumbed to her injuries later in the evening, completing the family tragedy.
