In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police has busted a gang of individuals who were impersonating police officers to extort money from innocent people. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, and authorities are on the lookout for other members of the gang.
Modus Operandi of the Gang
The gang operated by targeting vulnerable individuals, often those who were alone or in isolated areas. Posing as police officers, they would accuse their victims of minor offenses or threaten them with legal trouble. To avoid supposed arrest or fines, victims were coerced into paying bribes. The impersonators used fake identity cards, uniforms, and even vehicles fitted with fake police lights to appear convincing.
Details of the Arrest
The arrests were made following a tip-off and a coordinated operation by the Delhi Police. The two suspects, identified as Ravi Kumar and Amit Singh, were caught red-handed while attempting to extort money from a businessman in the Rohini area. Police recovered fake identity cards, a police uniform, and a vehicle with a beacon light from their possession.
Investigation and Legal Action
An investigation has been launched to trace other members of the gang and to identify victims who may have been targeted. The suspects have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating, impersonation, and extortion. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
Precautions for Citizens
The Delhi Police has advised the public to always verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a police officer. Citizens can ask for a valid ID card or call the local police station to confirm the officer's details. In case of doubt, people should not hesitate to contact the police helpline. The authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those who misuse the uniform and authority of law enforcement.
