Former Thane Municipal Corporation Official Faces Serious Charges in Prolonged Abuse Case

The Thane police have formally registered a case against a former senior official of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) for allegedly committing a series of heinous crimes against a 31-year-old woman over an extended three-year period from 2020 to 2023. The charges include repeated rape, criminal extortion, and the use of black magic rituals to intimidate and control the survivor.

Pattern of Abuse and Exploitation of Power

According to the detailed First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim, her traumatic ordeal began in 2020 while she was working as a contractual data entry operator within the TMC. The complainant has alleged that the former official, leveraging his influential position and authority, systematically manipulated her into a vulnerable situation.

The survivor's statement reveals that the accused lured her to a rented apartment located in an upscale residential complex in Thane. During one of their initial encounters, the official is accused of spiking her beverage with a powerful sedative substance, rendering her completely unconscious before sexually assaulting her.

Blackmail and Superstitious Intimidation Tactics

To ensure her continued silence and compliance, the accused allegedly recorded the assault on his mobile device. He then used this explicit footage as leverage, threatening to publicly upload the material to various social media platforms if she refused to submit to his ongoing demands, according to police officials familiar with the investigation.

The woman's harrowing account details a consistent pattern of abuse, with the former TMC official taking her to multiple locations between 2020 and 2023. Most disturbingly, the complaint includes allegations of the accused forcing the woman to participate in superstitious rituals under the guise of astrological guidance.

She was allegedly taken to Nashik under the pretext of visiting a renowned astrologer identified as Ashok Kharat. At Kharat's premises, the complainant was forced to engage in rituals involving lemons and specific charms, with the accused claiming these practices were essential for her future well-being and protection.

Legal Framework and Investigation Progress

The Thane police have registered the case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to rape, criminal intimidation, and the administration of drugs with intent to commit an offense. Ashok Kharat, the astrologer mentioned in the complaint, has a previous criminal record and has been arrested in multiple cases involving sexual assault and fraud.

While the FIR has been officially lodged, the former municipal official has not yet been taken into police custody. Senior law enforcement officials have confirmed that the investigation has been transferred to the specialized Thane crime branch unit.

The crime branch has launched a comprehensive investigation focused on verifying electronic evidence, tracing the movements of the accused, and gathering additional corroborative testimony. This specialized unit will examine digital footprints, communication records, and forensic evidence to build a strong case against the accused former official.

The case highlights serious concerns about power dynamics, workplace exploitation, and the use of superstitious practices to manipulate vulnerable individuals. The Thane police have assured that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and impartially to ensure justice for the survivor.
