Former Salesman Booked for Brazen Garment Theft and Sale Outside Pune Shop
In a startling incident of audacious theft, the Deccan Gymkhana police in Pune have registered a case against a 28-year-old former salesman for allegedly stealing women's garments valued at approximately Rs 40,000 from his previous workplace. The theft occurred in the early hours of Friday, around 3 AM, at a garment shop located on the bustling FC Road.
Bold Theft Followed by Brazen Sale Operation
What makes this case particularly remarkable is the suspect's subsequent actions. Not content with merely stealing the merchandise, the former employee reportedly set up a temporary stall directly in front of the very shop he had burglarized to sell the stolen garments. This bold move ultimately led to his identification and detention by authorities.
The 38-year-old woman shopowner from Lullanagar filed an official complaint with the Deccan Gymkhana police on Sunday morning after discovering the theft and confronting her former employee. According to Senior Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of the Deccan Gymkhana police, the suspect had previously worked at the establishment but left his position in January following disputes with the owner.
Extra Key Facilitated Early Morning Burglary
A critical detail emerged during the investigation: the former salesman had retained an extra key to the shop that he failed to return to the owner upon his departure. This key became the instrument of the crime when he used it to gain unauthorized entry during the predawn hours of Friday.
"The salesman used to work in the shop," Inspector Nimbalkar explained. "He left the job in January after some disputes with the owner. However, he had an extra key of the shop which he did not return to the owner."
Discovery and Confrontation
The theft came to light on Friday afternoon when the shopowner arrived at her establishment and noticed that numerous women's tops and other garments were missing from inventory. After conducting a thorough search of the premises without locating the items, she stepped outside and made a shocking discovery.
"Later, she went out and found her former salesman selling garments in front of her shop," Nimbalkar stated. "He had similar clothes which were missing from the shop's inventory."
CCTV Evidence and Police Action
Police investigators immediately reviewed closed-circuit television footage from the area, which provided conclusive evidence of the crime. The footage clearly showed the former employee opening the shop around 3 AM on Friday using the extra keys and subsequently exiting with armfuls of garments.
"Our team checked the CCTV footage of the spot," Nimbalkar confirmed. "It was found that the former salesman had opened the shop around 3 AM on Friday with the extra keys. He was also seen walking out of the shop with the garments."
Following this evidence, police detained the suspect and successfully recovered the stolen garments. When questioned about his decision to sell the stolen items in such a conspicuous location, the former salesman reportedly claimed that the area offered good business opportunities and expressed confidence that his theft would go undetected.
"The area provided a good opportunity for such business," Nimbalkar relayed from the suspect's statement. "He was confident enough that the theft would go unrecognized."
The Deccan Gymkhana police have served the former employee with an official notice as their investigation continues into this unusual case of workplace retaliation turned criminal enterprise.
