Police in west Delhi have arrested an 18-year-old woman for allegedly burgling the home of her former employer. The incident occurred in Punjabi Bagh, where the accused, identified as Laxmi, once worked as a domestic help.
Details of the Burglary
Laxmi reportedly quit her job at the furniture businessman's house about eight months ago. Last week, she returned to the property when the family was away attending a wedding. Investigators say she acted alone in carrying out the theft.
How the Crime Unfolded
According to police officers, Laxmi was familiar with the layout of the house. She knew exactly where valuables were kept. After learning the family would be absent for a wedding, she jumped over a wall to enter the premises. She then broke a lock to gain entry into the dwelling.
Police Investigation and Recovery
The Punjabi Bagh police station received a PCR call on Thursday. The complainant alleged that Rs 5.6 lakh in cash had been stolen. An FIR was registered the following day under Sections 305 and 331 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
DCP (west) Darade Sharad Bhaskar stated that investigators analyzed CCTV footage from more than 25 cameras. They also utilized local intelligence. Based on this evidence, police traced and arrested Laxmi. So far, they have recovered Rs 2.7 lakh of the stolen cash. The total amount taken was over Rs 5 lakh.
Background of the Accused
Laxmi is a resident of Mangolpuri. Police confirm she has no previous criminal record. Her familiarity with the house and its routines likely facilitated the burglary.
The case highlights concerns about security in residential areas. It also underscores the importance of thorough background checks for domestic staff. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to recover the remaining stolen funds.
