Ex-Virginia Coach Travis Turner Missing After Child Porn Charges: Family's Plea
Ex-Football Coach Missing After Child Porn Charges

The case of a former high school football coach from Virginia, who disappeared just before serious criminal charges were filed against him, has taken a poignant turn with his family making a public plea for his return. Travis Turner, the ex-coach of Union High School in Big Stone Gap, went missing on November 20 and was later charged with ten counts related to child pornography and solicitation of a minor.

Disappearance and Disturbing Details

According to authorities, the incident began when officers from the Virginia State Police visited Turner's home to speak with him. It is reported that he then walked into the wooded area near his residence while holding a gun and did not return. His wife, Leslie Turner, felt that something was seriously amiss and reported him missing that very day.

In a significant development shared last Wednesday, the family's lawyer, Adrian Collins, revealed new information. He stated that Travis Turner left behind all his essential personal belongings inside the house. His car, keys, wallet, cash, glasses, contact lens supplies, and daily medication were all untouched, deepening the mystery around his disappearance.

Family's Cooperation and Emotional Appeal

Adrian Collins has emphasised that the Turner family is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies. He clarified to the Daily Mail that Leslie Turner was not assisting her husband in escaping but was solely focused on finding him. Collins also pointed out a critical timeline: the police did not formally file the charges until several days after Travis Turner had vanished. Therefore, he "was not a fugitive at the time he went missing." The family has consented to multiple searches of their property and surrounding regions.

Collins conveyed a direct and emotional message from the family to the missing coach: "Your wife and children are in distress. Leslie pleads for you to come home and face the allegations by defending yourself in a court of law. They love you and miss you. They want you to know they are your support."

Massive Search and Fallout

The search for Travis Turner has now expanded into a major operation involving the U.S. Marshals, the Virginia State Police, and the FBI. The U.S. Marshals have announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to his arrest. Search teams have deployed K9 units, drones, and rescue personnel across Wise County. As of now, Turner remains listed as a missing person on the Virginia State Police website.

The fallout from the charges has been swift in his professional life. Turner, who coached at Union High School from 2011 and was named Southwest Virginia Coach of the Year twice, has been placed on leave. The Wise County School District has removed his profile from the school's website.

In a show of resilience, his son, Bailey Turner, continued with the football team and assisted in coaching during last weekend's state playoff game. Bailey described the team's victory as "bittersweet" and expressed the family's gratitude for the community's support. Union High School is scheduled to play Glenvar in the Class 2 state semifinal on December 6.
