Vijayawada Woman Kidnapped, Raped in Eluru; BNS & SC/ST Act Invoked
Eluru Rape Case: Two Accused Booked Under New BNS

A serious case of alleged kidnapping and sexual assault has shaken Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, leading to the registration of a case under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The victim, a 23-year-old woman from Nidamanuru in Vijayawada Rural mandal, has accused two men of committing the crime in the early hours of December 3.

Chilling Details from the FIR

The incident came to light after the survivor filed a formal complaint at the Eluru Two Town police station. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman had traveled to Eluru to meet a friend, Tulasi Nagamani, whom she had connected with on Instagram. She was staying at Nagamani's residence on the night the offence occurred.

Around midnight, the accused identified as Puligadda Jagadeesh Babu and Laveti Bhavani Kumar allegedly arrived at the house in an intoxicated state. They are said to have shouted, pelted stones, and forced their way inside. The FIR states that Jagadeesh dragged the victim out of the house, while Bhavani Kumar locked Nagamani inside to prevent any intervention.

The Sequence of Alleged Assault

The complainant narrated a harrowing sequence of events. She alleged that Jagadeesh took her to a nearby committee hall and raped her at approximately 1:30 am. He reportedly threatened to kill her if she ever revealed the incident to anyone.

The ordeal did not end there. Minutes later, Bhavani Kumar returned to the spot with an associate. The duo then allegedly assaulted the woman with a belt and a stick, subjecting her to further physical violence and issuing more threats.

Police Investigation and Possible Motive

Inspector Ashok Kumar, commenting on the ongoing investigation, revealed that preliminary inquiries suggest a possible personal conflict behind the violent confrontation. It was found that the main accused, Jagadeesh, had known Nagamani's mother, Vasanta, for about five years.

Jagadeesh is described as a history-sheeter with a record in property offences. Although he had recently taken up a job in Mangalagiri, he remained involved in local disputes. The police suspect that unresolved personal issues between Jagadeesh and Vasanta may have triggered this brutal attack on the victim.

The authorities have invoked serious charges including assault, intimidation, and rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have also been applied in the case. The police are currently awaiting the medical examination reports, and a thorough investigation is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
