Tragic House Fire Claims Life of Elderly Man in Chatra District

A devastating house fire has resulted in the death of an elderly man in Chatra district, Jharkhand. The incident, which occurred in Bandu village under the Lawalong police station limits, has left the local community in shock.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The victim, identified as Chetlal Ganjhu, aged 65, was found charred to death in his bedroom. According to preliminary investigations by the police, the fire originated from a burning brazier that Chetlal had kept in his room before going to sleep. He had reportedly used the brazier, filled with burning charcoal, to keep himself warm during the cold night.

The tragic event unfolded on Thursday when Chetlal was alone at his home. It is suspected that the fire from the brazier accidentally spread to his bed. By the time Chetlal became aware of the smoke and flames, it was too late for him to escape the room.

Discovery and Aftermath

Concerned locals entered Chetlal's home on Friday evening after he failed to emerge from his house. They discovered his charred corpse with clear signs of a fire. The family, in a state of grief, proceeded with the cremation without immediately informing the police.

Prashant Mishra, the officer-in-charge of Lawalong police station, stated, "We received information about his death in the evening. A complaint is yet to be registered, but we have launched an investigation into the incident." Mishra added that the police are working to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the fire.

Community and Safety Concerns

This incident highlights the potential dangers associated with using traditional heating methods like braziers, especially in rural areas. During winter months, many elderly individuals rely on such devices for warmth, but without proper safety measures, they can pose significant fire hazards.

The local authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and consider safer alternatives to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited as police gather more information from the scene and witnesses.
