In a shocking case of honour killing, police in Dumka have arrested three individuals, including the father of a 17-year-old girl, for allegedly murdering the minor because she was in a relationship with a local youth. The brutal crime has sent shockwaves through the Dighi village community under Saraiyahat police station jurisdiction.
The Tragic Timeline of Events
The nightmare began on October 27 when the teenage girl, identified as Kajal Kumari, went missing from her home. What initially appeared as a case of disappearance soon turned into a murder investigation when police recovered her mutilated body from an abandoned location on November 6.
According to police officials, the victim's father, Nirmal Paswan, had attempted to mislead investigators by filing a missing person report on November 4. He alleged that his daughter had eloped with the youth she was having an affair with. However, police suspicions were aroused when family members showed uncooperative behavior during the investigation.
Investigation Breakthrough and Confessions
Rajendra Yaduvanshi, the officer-in-charge of Saraiyahat police station, revealed that scientific investigation and analysis of call details led to the breakthrough in the case. "The father of the girl also didn't turn up at the scene of the recovery of her body. However, the scientific investigation and analysis of the call details of the accused persons led to their detention for questioning, and they confessed to the crime," Yaduvanshi told media.
The investigation uncovered that Kajal Kumari had been in a relationship with a youth from the same village for some time. The situation escalated when she inscribed his name on her left hand using a sharp object and insisted on marrying him against her family's wishes.
The three arrested individuals include Nirmal Paswan (father), Kajal Paswan and Vibhishan Paswan (cousins of the accused father). Police confirmed that one more accused remains at large, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.
