In a shocking incident that has rattled the Tarbanna locality, a 75-year-old man was discovered dead under highly suspicious circumstances inside his residence on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Vishwanath Gupta, a former fruit seller, was found with his hands and feet tied, prompting a major police investigation.
Gruesome Discovery in Morning Hours
According to statements from family members to the police, the grim discovery was made in the morning. Vishwanath Gupta was found lying in a pool of blood on the floor of his room in his three-storey house located near Gopal Bridge. The scene suggested a violent struggle, with injury marks visible on his head.
Adding to the suspicion of foul play, a gold chain that the elderly man was known to be wearing the night before was reported missing. Furthermore, a cupboard inside the house was found open, indicating the possibility of a theft. The deceased lived alone in the house under the limits of the Town police station.
Son Suspects Burglary, Police Launch Multi-Station Probe
The victim's only son, Santosh, who resides in Bengaluru, has pointed towards burglary as a likely motive behind the tragic incident. The suspicion stems from the missing jewellery and the ransacked cupboard.
Responding swiftly, a team of police officers from the Town police station, along with personnel from Mufassil, Jeerwabadi, and Ganga River police stations, converged at the scene. A thorough investigation has been initiated to unravel the sequence of events leading to the elderly man's death.
Investigation Explores Multiple Angles
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Vijay Kushwaha, who visited the crime scene, stated that the probe is examining all possible angles. "Investigation is being carried out from all angles including robbery, personal enmity and others. Postmortem report is awaited," the DSP said, highlighting the open-minded approach of the investigators.
The authorities are now awaiting the crucial postmortem report, which will provide definitive details about the cause and time of death. The findings are expected to add a critical piece to the puzzle as the police work to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime against a senior citizen.
