Police in Delhi have arrested a young man following a violent altercation that turned fatal in the Shahdara district. The incident occurred in the Gandhi Nagar area, where a drunken argument escalated into a deadly assault.
Victim Identified as Local Rickshaw Puller
The deceased man has been identified as Danua, a 36-year-old resident of Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district. Danua made his living by running a small earthen pot-making shop and also worked as a pedal rickshaw puller in the locality.
Police Respond to Bloody Scene
Authorities received an emergency call around 9:49 PM on Saturday evening. The caller reported seeing a man lying in a pool of blood near a school boundary wall in Mahila Colony. When police officers reached the location, they found Danua dead with severe head injuries.
Dhaba Owner Provides Crucial Account
Simultaneously, a 62-year-old dhaba owner came forward with information about the incident. He told investigators that he was at his roadside eatery during the evening, warming himself by a fire, when two rickshaw pullers arrived at his establishment.
The two men - identified as Danua and Banti - began drinking liquor together at the dhaba. As they consumed alcohol, their conversation turned heated. Both men reportedly started using abusive language against each other while intoxicated.
Argument Escalates to Violence
According to the dhaba owner's statement, the verbal confrontation quickly turned physical. Banti allegedly picked up a wooden stick and struck Danua directly on the head with significant force.
The blow caused Danua to collapse immediately. He fell to the ground and began bleeding profusely from his mouth. The dhaba owner witnessed the entire violent episode unfold at his establishment.
Suspect Arrested at Scene
Police identified the alleged attacker as Banti, a 26-year-old rickshaw puller originally from Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district. Officers took him into custody at the scene of the crime.
Investigators seized the wooden stick believed to be the murder weapon from the location. The weapon will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Murder Case Registered
Authorities have filed a formal case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Geeta Colony police station. The legal proceedings against the arrested suspect have now begun.
