Accident Investigation Uncovers Hidden Narcotics
In a significant development in Mangaluru, a routine traffic accident investigation took a dramatic turn when police officers discovered a stash of narcotic substances inside one of the vehicles involved. The incident occurred on Tuesday at Talapady, leading to an unexpected drug bust.
Complaint Triggers Deeper Probe
The sequence of events began after the driver of a truck involved in the collision approached the authorities. City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH confirmed that the truck driver's formal complaint set the official process in motion. During the subsequent investigation, one individual, identified as Adam, sustained injuries and required immediate hospitalization for treatment.
However, the driver of the car, named Siddique, reportedly fled from the scene of the accident, raising immediate suspicions. This prompted the investigating officers to conduct a more thorough examination of the abandoned car.
Panchanama Reveals Illegal Contraband
The crucial breakthrough came during the standard panchanama—the spot inspection and evidence collection procedure. While meticulously documenting the accident scene, the investigating officer stumbled upon the concealed narcotics within the car. Acting swiftly on this discovery, Traffic PSI Omdas filed an official complaint based on which a formal case was registered under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Ullal police station.
Commissioner Reddy revealed that both accused persons are residents of Uppala. The police are now focusing their efforts on the interrogation of the injured accused, Adam, who is currently receiving medical care. Authorities have indicated that further critical details about the source and destination of the drugs are expected to emerge once the questioning is complete.
