Odisha Drug Trafficker Apprehended in Koraput After Evading Capture on Parole
In a significant breakthrough, a notorious drug trafficker accused of supplying narcotics from Odisha to the national capital was arrested in Koraput, Odisha. The accused, identified as Manoj Khillo, had been on the run after securing parole under the false pretext of his mother's cancer treatment, highlighting a brazen attempt to exploit legal provisions for criminal evasion.
Proclaimed Offender with a Reward for Capture
Manoj Khillo was declared a proclaimed offender by a court, carrying a substantial reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to his arrest. This designation underscores the severity of his criminal activities and the authorities' determination to bring him to justice. Police investigations revealed that Khillo was involved in more than six criminal cases, including violations under the Arms Act, NDPS Act, Excise Act, and charges of criminal intimidation across Delhi and Odisha.
Elusive Tactics and Jurisdictional Challenges
To avoid detection, Khillo employed sophisticated evasion strategies. He frequently changed his identity and used multiple aliases while interacting with suppliers and associates. This tactic ensured that even apprehended accomplices could not reveal his true identity, complicating police efforts. Additionally, he allegedly exploited jurisdictional challenges by regularly crossing the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh border, making it difficult for law enforcement agencies to track his movements and coordinate arrests.
Arrest After Intensive Surveillance
The arrest was executed by a dedicated team led by Inspector Shiv Kumar under the supervision of DCP (Special Cell) Aalap Patel. After more than three months of relentless surveillance, officers received crucial intelligence about Khillo's presence in his native village in Koraput. On February 13, he was apprehended in a coordinated operation. Following his arrest, Khillo was produced before a local court in Koraput and subsequently brought to Delhi on a four-day transit remand for further legal proceedings.
This case highlights the persistent efforts of law enforcement in combating drug trafficking networks and the challenges posed by criminals who manipulate legal systems and geographical boundaries to evade justice.
