Major Drug Bust: Interstate Cannabis Network Dismantled
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Delhi Police has successfully busted an interstate drug syndicate operating between West Bengal and the national capital. The operation led to the arrest of four alleged cartel members and the seizure of over 47 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of ₹25 lakh.
How the Operation Unfolded
The breakthrough came on November 9 when authorities received crucial intelligence about a major cannabis consignment expected near Janakpuri District Park in west Delhi. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, police teams conducted a raid in the area and apprehended three individuals: Toni Singh (47) from Subhash Nagar, Sultana (30) from Cooch Behar, West Bengal, and Noor Jahan (32) from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.
All three suspects were allegedly carrying trolley bags filled with the banned narcotic substance. During subsequent interrogation, investigators identified and tracked down Santosh alias Bhabhi (38) from Okhla Industrial Area, who was taken into custody on November 12. Police described Santosh as a major distributor operating within Delhi's drug network.
Modus Operandi Revealed
According to police officials, the syndicate had established a sophisticated operation spanning two states. Large cannabis shipments were sourced from West Bengal and transported to Delhi via long-distance trains. The accused women, Sultana and Noor Jahan, allegedly acted as carriers, concealing the drugs inside ordinary-looking trolley bags to avoid detection.
Once the consignments reached Delhi, Santosh would take charge of receiving and circulating the narcotics through local distribution channels. Toni Singh facilitated operations within the capital's network, ensuring the drugs reached their final destinations.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
The confiscated cannabis was carefully measured and seized following established legal protocols. Authorities have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Janakpuri police station.
Investigators confirmed that their probe is continuing to identify the primary supplier based in West Bengal. The police are examining financial transactions and communication records to uncover the complete network and potentially make more arrests in the coming days.
This bust represents a significant blow to the interstate drug trade that had been exploiting railway networks for illegal transportation. Delhi Police has intensified its efforts against narcotics smuggling ahead of the holiday season, when drug consumption typically sees an increase.
