Drone Crash Leads to Major Drug Bust in Fazilka Border Area
In a significant operation near the India-Pakistan border, authorities in Fazilka district have recovered a charred drone and a substantial quantity of heroin. The incident occurred in the Jalalabad border area, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
Details of the Recovery Operation
Acting on specific intelligence, teams from the Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) swiftly moved to the location and sealed off the area. During a thorough search operation, they discovered the damaged drone along with multiple packets containing approximately 5.8 kilograms of heroin.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the drone is believed to have originated from across the border and entered Indian airspace. It reportedly crashed and sustained damage after colliding with high-voltage power lines that pass over the agricultural fields in the vicinity. Police officials are currently conducting a detailed probe to uncover further details about the smuggling attempt.
Official Statement from Fazilka SSP
Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh provided additional context on the incident. He stated that the event took place near the Santokh Singh Wala border outpost (BOP) on Wednesday night. "A drone was observed moving from Pakistan towards India," SSP Singh explained. "While carrying a consignment of heroin, the drone came into contact with high-voltage power lines over the fields and crashed. Upon receiving this information, our police units and the BSF immediately cordoned off the area and executed a search operation, leading to the recovery of both the drone and the heroin."
