A liquor businessman in Chandigarh has become the latest target of extortion by a notorious criminal linked to the Devinder Bambiha gang. The gangster, identified as Doni Bal, has demanded a staggering sum of Rs 1 crore from the trader, threatening severe consequences if the money is not paid.
The Terrifying Threat Calls
According to the police complaint, the 40-year-old businessman, who resides in a rented house in Sector 37, Chandigarh, was at his shop in Industrial Area, Phase 1, on November 13. Around 7:30 PM, he received a WhatsApp call on his mobile phone. The caller introduced himself as Doni Bal and proceeded to demonstrate detailed knowledge about the victim's life.
The caller knew everything about his business operations, his residential address in Sector 37, and even sensitive details about his family members, the complaint stated. Doni Bal then delivered the ultimatum: the businessman would have to pay Rs 1 crore if he wished to continue his liquor trade without any harm. Failure to comply would lead to dire repercussions.
Police Complaint and Follow-up Intimidation
Fearing for his and his family's safety, the businessman immediately alerted the Chandigarh Police control room and subsequently submitted a formal written complaint. A case has been officially registered at the Sector 39 police station, and an investigation is currently in progress.
However, the intimidation did not stop. On Monday, following his police complaint, the businessman received another call from the same number. This time, the caller dismissed the act of complaining to the police as futile and reiterated the demand for the money. Once again, the victim informed the authorities about this fresh threat.
Doni Bal's Notorious Background
The accused, Doni Bal, is a known figure in criminal circles and is associated with the Devinder Bambiha gang. His notoriety was further cemented when he publicly claimed responsibility for the killing of Kunwar Digvijay Singh, alias Rana Balachauria. That murder took place during a kabaddi tournament in Mohali, showcasing the gang's brazen approach to violence.
The Chandigarh Police are now actively investigating the extortion case, examining the digital trail from the WhatsApp calls and working to apprehend the accused. This incident has raised concerns about the safety of business owners in the region and the ongoing activities of organized crime syndicates.
