Three Lives Lost in Tragic Dhule Highway Collision
A devastating road accident on the Mumbai-Agra Highway in Dhule district resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a young teenager, early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred near the Nardana bridge, approximately 200 kilometers from Nashik, when a dumper truck collided with two motorcycles, causing fatal injuries to all riders.
Details of the Fatal Crash
According to Assistant Inspector Nilesh More from the Nardana police station, the accident took place around 10:30 AM. The victims were identified as Sumit Mali, aged 14, and his 22-year-old cousin Ganesh Mali, both residents of Waghadi in Shirpur, along with Sudhakar Badgujar, 50, from Varshi in Sindkheda taluka of Dhule. The trio was crossing the busy highway to access a service road while en route to Betwad for a religious event when the tragedy struck.
The dumper truck, heavily laden with soil and traveling from Shirpur towards Dhule, hit both motorcycles simultaneously. The impact was severe, leading to immediate and critical injuries for all three individuals. They were rushed to the nearest hospital but were declared dead upon arrival, highlighting the severity of the collision.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
In response to the incident, the Nardana police swiftly detained the truck driver at the scene. A formal case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by negligence and engaging in rash and negligent driving. This legal action underscores the authorities' commitment to holding accountable those responsible for such preventable tragedies on the roads.
The accident caused significant disruption, paralyzing traffic on the Mumbai-Agra Highway for nearly 45 minutes. Police personnel worked diligently to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway, eventually restoring the flow of traffic on this crucial arterial route. The quick response helped mitigate further congestion and potential hazards in the area.
Broader Implications for Road Safety
This tragic event brings to light ongoing concerns about road safety, particularly on high-traffic highways like the Mumbai-Agra corridor. The loss of young lives, including that of a 14-year-old boy, serves as a stark reminder of the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and enhanced driver awareness. Communities in Dhule and surrounding regions are mourning the victims, with local authorities urging caution and adherence to speed limits to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As investigations continue, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the deceased and their families, while also advocating for measures to improve highway safety across the state.
