In a shocking incident that has rattled the Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu, a 41-year-old man allegedly buried his cousin's wife alive using an earthmover after a violent argument. The gruesome crime, which occurred near Indur on Saturday, stemmed from a two-year-long illicit affair between the accused and the victim.
The Affair and the Fatal Confrontation
K Anumanthan (41), a tractor driver from O G Alli village, had been in a secret relationship with Rajeshwari (34), the wife of his uncle's son, S Prabhu (37). The couple, who have a son and a daughter, lived near Anumanthan's house. Prabhu worked as a building contractor in Bengaluru, visiting home only twice a month.
The situation escalated on Saturday afternoon. According to Indur police inspector Logeswaran, Rajeshwari called Anumanthan, informing him that her husband was returning from Bangalore that night and wanted to meet. Anumanthan, who claimed he was busy preparing ground for a cricket match, refused. An undeterred Rajeshwari then went to the worksite where Anumanthan was present.
From Argument to Brutal Murder
A heated argument broke out between the two at the site. The quarrel turned physically violent when Anumanthan allegedly slapped Rajeshwari. In retaliation, she tore his shirt. In a fit of rage, Anumanthan is accused of picking up a brick and hitting Rajeshwari with it. The blow rendered her unconscious.
Instead of seeking help, Anumanthan then committed the horrific act. He placed the unconscious woman into a nearby pit. Using soil from his tractor, he began to bury her. To ensure the deed was hidden, he brought two more loads of soil, dumped them into the pit, and then used an earthmover to level the ground completely.
Witnesses, Surrender, and Arrest
The crime, however, did not go unseen. Some people who were grazing goats in the area witnessed the disturbing sequence of events. They immediately alerted the Indur police. Police personnel rushed to the spot, recovered Rajeshwari's body from the pit, and sent it for postmortem examination.
Faced with the evidence and likely pressure, K Anumanthan later surrendered before the police. The authorities have registered a case and placed him under arrest. Anumanthan, who is also married and has two children, now faces serious charges for the premeditated murder.
The incident has sent waves of horror through O G Alli village, exposing the tragic and violent end to a clandestine relationship. The police investigation is ongoing.
