The Excise Department in Mohali has launched a stringent enforcement drive, targeting the illegal sale and service of liquor at roadside eateries. The special operation, aimed at ensuring strict compliance with state excise laws, has led to immediate legal action against violators.
Raids Uncover Open Flouting of Rules
As part of this intensified crackdown, excise officials, accompanied by police teams, conducted surprise inspections across various dhabas and eating joints in the Kharar and Mohali areas. The focus was on establishments suspected of serving alcohol without the requisite licenses or in blatant disregard of regulations.
Makhan Fish Corner Faces Action
During these checks, the enforcement team led by Excise Inspector Ashok Kumar made a significant discovery at Makhan Fish Corner. This popular dhaba, located on the busy Kharar–Landran Road, was found to be openly serving liquor to its customers. The officials noted that the service was conducted without any attempt to conceal the activity, indicating a brazen violation of the law.
Consequently, the team took swift action and booked the dhaba owner under the relevant sections of the Punjab Excise Act. The booking signifies the department's zero-tolerance approach towards such illegal operations that not only breach fiscal laws but also potentially undermine public order and safety.
A Drive for Strict Compliance
This special enforcement drive underscores the department's commitment to curbing the unauthorized sale of alcohol. Officials have stated that such operations will continue to be a regular feature, with increased vigilance, especially around highways and peripheral areas where such violations are often reported.
The crackdown sends a clear message to all eateries and restaurant owners in the region: flouting excise laws will result in strict legal repercussions. The department has urged the public to cooperate and report any similar illegal activities, reinforcing that compliance is non-negotiable for maintaining lawful business practices in the state.
