Jharkhand DGP Conducts Intensive Review in Gumla Missing Girl Case
In a significant development, Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Tadasha Mishra arrived in Gumla district to personally oversee the investigation into the long-standing case of a minor girl who has been missing since September 2018. This visit comes just one day after the Jharkhand High Court imposed a strict two-week deadline on the state government to trace the missing child, intensifying pressure on law enforcement agencies.
Details of the Case and Police Action
The missing girl, identified as Sanjita Kumari, is a resident of Khora-Jamtoli village under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station. A formal case was registered with the district's Anti-Human Trafficking Unit on February 6, 2020, highlighting concerns over potential human trafficking. During his visit, DGP Mishra engaged in a closed-door meeting that lasted over two hours with the girl's mother, who had previously filed a habeas corpus petition with the High Court seeking her daughter's recovery.
The review meeting was attended by key police officials, including Gumla Superintendent of Police Haris Bin Zaman and Chainpur sub-divisional police officer Shruti, ensuring a coordinated approach to the investigation. In a statement, DGP Mishra acknowledged the prolonged efforts in the case, stating, "A lot of work has been done in this case for a long time. But unfortunately, nothing has so far been unearthed. Today we have conducted a detailed review of the case. We spoke to the complainant, relatives of the girl and the villagers and took their statements. Some conclusions have emerged and police will work on the same."
Nationwide Alert Issued for Recovery
In a proactive move, the district police have escalated the search efforts by issuing a nationwide alert. At the request of the SP, the Additional Director General of Police (CID) in Ranchi has disseminated a Hue & Cry Notice containing the girl's photograph and comprehensive details to the Director Generals of Police and Inspector Generals of all states across India. This step aims to broaden the search network and enhance the chances of locating Sanjita Kumari.
The High Court's deadline has injected a sense of urgency into the investigation, prompting top-level police involvement. The case has drawn attention to issues of child safety and law enforcement responsiveness in rural areas of Jharkhand. Authorities are now focusing on the new leads and conclusions derived from the recent review, with hopes of a breakthrough in the coming weeks.
