Delhi Woman Shot Dead: Prime Suspect Arrested from Bihar

Delhi Police Nab Prime Suspect in Shalimar Bagh Woman's Murder

Delhi Police have made a significant breakthrough in the shocking murder case of a woman in Shalimar Bagh. They arrested the prime suspect, Bharat Yadav, from Bihar. The arrest came days after 44-year-old Rachna Yadav was shot dead near her residence.

Key Arrests and Criminal Connections

Police confirmed Bharat Yadav's involvement in another serious crime. He was allegedly connected to the murder of Rachna's husband, Vijendra Yadav, in 2023. Bharat had been evading authorities since that incident.

Officers also captured two associates of Bharat from Haryana. The arrested individuals are Nikhil and Sumit. Investigators revealed these two men are first-time offenders. They reportedly accepted a promise of Rs 5 lakh to carry out the crime.

Details of the Crime and Investigation

The motorcycle used in the shooting was stolen from Subhash Place in September 2025. Bharat Yadav provided this bike along with other logistics for the attack. Police made all three arrests on Monday around 11:45 pm.

Rachna Yadav held a crucial position in the legal proceedings of her husband's case. She served as the prime witness and was scheduled to testify in court. She had missed the initial hearing in early January.

The Fatal Incident and Political Background

The shooting occurred on January 10 near the Delhi Chief Minister's family home. Sources indicate Rachna was returning from a neighbor's funeral when two attackers stopped her. One assailant asked for her name and shot her after she identified herself.

Rachna actively participated in her community as President of her block's Resident Welfare Association. Her husband had a criminal record from Jahangirpuri with multiple arrests including murder charges. Vijendra Yadav was killed on May 22, 2023, while attending a langar near his property office in Bhalswa. Police had previously arrested five people for that murder.

Possible Motives and Family Tragedy

Investigators suspect old rivalries might have driven both murders. Sources reveal both Vijendra and Bharat wanted AAP tickets for the 2022 MCD elections. This ambition sparked arguments between them on social media platforms.

The tragedy has devastated the family. Rachna's daughter Kanika expressed deep concern about their safety before the incident. She mentioned her mother refused police protection, recalling her father's fatalistic view. Kanika demanded justice, wanting the killers to face the same fate as her parents.

This case highlights ongoing challenges with violent crime in Delhi. Police continue their investigation to uncover all aspects of this double murder mystery.
