Delhi Trader Fatally Stabbed Following Social Media Altercation Over Wedding Celebration
In a tragic incident stemming from online hostility, a trader was stabbed to death in Delhi's Sadar Bazar area on the night of February 20. The altercation erupted after abusive comments were made on a social media post related to a wedding, escalating into a fatal assault that has shocked the local community.
Details of the Fatal Confrontation
Satish Kumar, a 48-year-old resident of Motia Khan, was killed near Ram Kumar Marg. According to police reports, the chain of events began on February 18 when Satish's daughter solemnized her marriage with Krishna in court. The family was overjoyed and was actively preparing for a reception scheduled for February 23.
On February 20, the young bride shared moments from the wedding on social media. Tanya, the daughter of Ashwani, who is Satish's nephew, allegedly posted abusive comments on the story. Upset by these remarks, Satish, accompanied by his wife, went to Ashwani's house to confront the family. After a conversation, they began heading home.
Violent Escalation and Arrests
Around 10:20 PM, Ashwani's son Aman allegedly picked a fight with them on the street. Police stated that Aman, along with his father Ashwani and sister Tanya, surrounded the family. Aman allegedly pulled out a button-operated knife and stabbed Satish in the chest. His wife was also assaulted during the incident. Local residents rushed the injured man to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Based on his wife's statement, a case was registered at Sadar Bazar police station on February 21 under Sections 103 (murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A police team swiftly arrested Aman (22), Ashwani (40), and Tanya. Aman allegedly led officers to the spot where he had concealed the knife, and the weapon was seized as evidence.
Background of the Victim
Police confirmed that Satish lived with his wife and daughter in Motia Khan and ran his own business. This incident highlights the dangerous potential of social media disputes to spiral into real-world violence, underscoring the need for caution in online interactions.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities emphasizing the seriousness of the charges under the new legal framework.
