A shocking incident of road rage in the capital has left a man fighting for his life after he was brutally assaulted with his own helmet. The event unfolded in West Delhi's Bindapur area following a minor traffic dispute.
Minor Traffic Brush Sparks Violent Outburst
The victim, identified as Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Nand Ram Park in Uttam Nagar, was returning home with his wife, Deepa Singh, on Wednesday. The couple had just dropped their child at a school in Janakpuri East. According to police, their scooter lightly touched a car on Mangal Bazar Road.
This seemingly insignificant contact triggered an extreme reaction from the car driver. The accused, later identified as Simar, allegedly lost his temper immediately and began hurling abuses at Kumar.
Helmet Turned Into Weapon in Savage Attack
When Rajiv Kumar objected to the verbal abuse, the situation escalated rapidly. In a brutal turn of events, the accused snatched Kumar's helmet and used it as a weapon. He repeatedly struck Kumar on the head with the helmet, causing severe injuries.
Kumar soon began bleeding heavily and collapsed onto the road. His wife, Deepa Singh, pleaded with the attacker to stop and screamed for help from bystanders. Despite her desperate cries, the assault continued for several terrifying moments.
Arrest Made After City-Wide Manhunt
By the time a police team reached the spot, the accused had fled the scene. The critically injured Rajiv Kumar was rushed to BL Gupta Hospital, where doctors declared his condition as critical. As Kumar was unfit to record a statement, police registered a case based on the complaint filed by his wife.
Police launched an intensive manhunt, conducting raids at multiple locations. Their efforts led to the arrest of the accused, Simar, from Maharani Enclave in Uttam Nagar. Authorities confirmed that Simar has a prior criminal record. He has been sent to judicial custody.
