Delhi Police Investigate Alleged Kidnapping and Conversion Claims in Fatehpur Beri Case

In south Delhi's Fatehpur Beri police station, a significant ruckus unfolded on Thursday involving two distinct groups, sparking a complex investigation into allegations of kidnapping and forced religious conversion. Police sources confirmed that the incident originated from a missing person report concerning a woman from Uttar Pradesh, who was later traced to the Fatehpur Beri area.

Queer Feminist Group Provides Shelter and Support

Nazariya, a prominent queer feminist resource group, stepped forward to clarify the situation, stating that the 24-year-old woman had approached them seeking protection from alleged abuse by her marital family. The organization accepted her case and provided interim relief and shelter, operating strictly under constitutional and legal provisions to ensure her safety and rights.

In line with due process, the survivor chose not to meet her marital or natal family and recorded her statement at both Fatehpur Beri and Juanapur police stations, the group emphasized in an official statement.

Allegations of False Claims and Interference

However, the situation escalated when members of Bajrang Dal, along with the survivor's family, intervened, circulating what Nazariya described as false allegations of kidnapping and forced conversion. The group firmly asserted that these claims are entirely baseless and aimed at undermining the woman's autonomy and the legal protections afforded to her.

Political and Legal Responses

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor weighed in on the matter, highlighting the importance of individual freedoms. Every adult has the right to lead life as per his or her preference. Like we highly respect every individual's freedom to live life at their own will, we strongly condemn any forced religious conversion, he stated, reflecting the party's stance on personal liberty and opposition to coercion.

Police authorities have confirmed that no formal complaint has been filed in the matter as of yet, indicating that the investigation is ongoing to verify the facts and ensure justice. The incident underscores the tensions between personal rights, family dynamics, and political activism in urban India.
