Delhi Police Cracks Down on Extortion Racket, Arrests Bishnoi Gang Member
Delhi Police's crime branch made a significant arrest on Friday, apprehending a member of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The arrest is linked to an extortion racket targeting a Rajasthan-based businessman.
Accused Identified and Arrested in Uttam Nagar
The police identified the arrested individual as Pardeep Sharma, a 23-year-old resident of Agra. Officers captured him in Uttam Nagar, located in south west Delhi. Pardeep Sharma is a wanted shooter with connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
He faces multiple cases in Rajasthan. These include charges of extortion, firing incidents, and the illegal supply of arms and ammunition.
Details of the Extortion Demand and Attack
According to DCP (crime) Harsh Indora, the case began in March last year. Members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang allegedly demanded a massive extortion amount of Rs 4 crore from a businessman living in Ganganagar district, Rajasthan.
When the businessman refused to pay the demanded sum, the gang assigned Pardeep Sharma to intimidate him. Sharma allegedly carried out a firing attack at the businessman's residence to pressure him into compliance.
In May, Pardeep Sharma, along with his associates, opened fire at the businessman's house. This incident led to the registration of a case. Following this, police arrested Pardeep and some of his associates.
Resumption of Criminal Activities After Bail
After being released on bail, Pardeep Sharma allegedly resumed his criminal activities. Investigations later uncovered that he began supplying illegal arms and ammunition to members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
In a subsequent crackdown, Rajasthan Police arrested four gang members. They recovered a large cache of weapons during this operation.
The probe identified Pardeep Sharma as the source of the recovered arms and ammunition. This discovery led to the registration of another case under the Arms Act.
Delhi Police's arrest marks a crucial step in dismantling this extortion network. The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and illegal arms trafficking in the region.
