Delhi Police Launches Massive Pre-Holi Crackdown, Detains Nearly 4,000 Individuals
In a significant security operation ahead of the Holi festival, Delhi Police conducted a rigorous two-day crackdown under "Operation Aaghat 4.0" on March 1 and 2, 2026, resulting in the detention of approximately 4,000 people across the national capital. This extensive drive was specifically designed to target and neutralize potential threats from bootleggers, drug peddlers, and habitual offenders, aiming to ensure a safe and crime-free celebration during the festive period.
Preventive Custody and Legal Actions Taken
As part of the operation, police authorities took over 975 individuals into preventive custody, formally charging them to deter criminal activities. In a parallel effort, more than 220 people were arrested under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, highlighting the focus on combating drug-related offenses. Additionally, cases were registered under various legal provisions, including the Arms Act, Delhi Excise Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, and Gambling Act, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to law enforcement.
Enforcement Measures and Seizures
The crackdown also involved strict enforcement of public order regulations. Police penalized more than 550 people for public drinking, addressing concerns over disorderly conduct during the festival. Furthermore, in a move to curb illegal activities and enhance security, authorities seized over 475 vehicles suspected of being involved in unlawful acts. These actions underscore the intensified security measures implemented by Delhi Police to maintain peace and prevent incidents before and during Holi celebrations.
