Delhi Police Head Constable Arrested for Allegedly Shooting ED Staffer at Wedding Function
A shocking incident unfolded in the national capital when a Delhi Police head constable was arrested for allegedly shooting dead a 30-year-old staffer of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) with his licensed pistol at a wedding function in north Delhi's Wazirabad area on Monday night. In a significant development, two of his relatives have also been apprehended by the authorities in connection with this brutal crime.
Victim Identified as ED Multi-Tasking Staff from Uttar Pradesh
The victim has been identified as Ashish, a 30-year-old man who hailed from Katha village in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district. He was employed as 'Multi-tasking Staff' in the Enforcement Directorate, a premier financial investigation agency of the Government of India. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through both law enforcement circles and the local community.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Fatal Shooting
Late on Monday evening, officers at the Wazirabad police station received critical information that a man with a gunshot injury had been admitted to the trauma centre in Timarpur and was subsequently declared dead by medical professionals. Police teams immediately rushed to the hospital, where the deceased was formally identified.
According to police reports, the victim had been brought to the hospital by his younger brother, Anuj, who provided a detailed statement to investigators. Anuj revealed that he and Ashish had come to attend the wedding of a neighbour at Gulshan Vatika in Wazirabad. The accused, identified as Pravesh—a head constable in Delhi Police's traffic unit who possesses a licensed pistol—also attended the function along with his brother Sandeep and brothers-in-law Vipin and Vikash.
History of Enmity and Alleged Threats
In his police statement, Anuj alleged that Pravesh harboured deep-seated enmity against his brother Ashish. The conflict reportedly stemmed from a dispute that occurred approximately three months prior, when Pravesh had complained to their father about an unspecified issue. Although the matter was supposedly resolved at that time, Anuj claimed that Pravesh continued to threaten to kill his brother in the intervening period, creating an atmosphere of fear and tension.
The Fatal Confrontation and Immediate Aftermath
The situation reached its tragic climax on Monday night as the brothers were preparing to leave for their village. According to the police complaint, Pravesh, accompanied by Sandeep, Vipin and Vikash, allegedly caught hold of Ashish and fired a single shot directly at his chest. The assailants then fled the scene immediately after committing the act.
The critically injured Ashish was first rushed to a nearby private medical facility for emergency treatment. When his condition failed to improve, he was subsequently shifted to the Timarpur trauma centre, where doctors examined him and declared him dead upon arrival.
Legal Action and Arrests Made
Based on Anuj's detailed statement and preliminary investigation, the Delhi Police registered a formal case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25/27 of the Arms Act. In a swift follow-up operation, police teams arrested the prime accused Pravesh along with his brother Sandeep and brother-in-law Vipin. Authorities also successfully recovered the licensed pistol that was allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to apprehend the remaining suspect, Vikash, and gather additional evidence.
