Delhi Police has successfully dismantled a major illegal arms manufacturing operation in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district. Authorities arrested five individuals connected to a syndicate that supplied weapons to gangsters and criminals operating across multiple states.
Republic Day Security Drive Leads to Breakthrough
Police officials revealed that the arrests came as part of a special security drive launched ahead of Republic Day celebrations. The operation specifically targeted the circulation of illegal firearms in the region.
During coordinated raids, law enforcement recovered twenty country-made pistols and twelve live cartridges. Officers also seized heavy machinery and equipment used for manufacturing weapons on a large scale.
How the Syndicate Unraveled
The investigation began earlier this month when Special Staff teams received a crucial tip-off on January 4th. Police laid a trap near Rajokri T-Point in Southwest Delhi's Kapashera area.
There, they apprehended Bharat, a 35-year-old resident of Palam. Officers recovered a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from his possession. This initial arrest led to the registration of a case under the Arms Act at Kapashera police station.
During intensive questioning, Bharat provided critical information about an illegal firearms manufacturing network. He identified Ashraf Ali, a resident of Kaili village in Meerut, as a key figure actively engaged in producing illegal weapons.
Factory Busted in Meerut Village
Following Bharat's revelations, police conducted swift raids in Kaili village. They discovered a fully operational illegal firearms factory equipped for large-scale production.
From the manufacturing site, authorities arrested three individuals: Ashraf Ali, Upender, and Satish. The factory contained sophisticated machinery and tools necessary for weapon production.
DCP South West Amit Goel stated that the syndicate manufactured firearms on demand. They used heavy machinery and raw materials to create weapons specifically for criminal networks.
Additional Arrest in Delhi
Further investigation led police to Imteyaz, a 28-year-old resident of Delhi's Dwarka area. Authorities believe he played a significant role in procuring and distributing weapons to various criminal elements.
Police examination revealed that all arrested individuals have extensive criminal histories. Multiple cases including murder, attempted murder, robbery, snatching, and previous Arms Act violations appear on their records.
Equipment Seized and Investigation Continues
Beyond firearms and ammunition, police confiscated numerous manufacturing tools from the Meerut facility. The seized items included iron barrels, shaping machines, grinders, welding rods, springs, chisels, and sanding tools.
Officers noted that some accused individuals had resumed illegal activities after securing bail in previous cases. They allegedly supplied weapons primarily for monetary gain.
Authorities continue their investigation to identify the syndicate's clients and trace the complete supply chain. The operation represents a significant blow to illegal arms networks operating in northern India.
