Delhi Police have successfully dismantled an interstate vehicle theft and fraud operation. Officers from the crime branch made three key arrests and recovered a total of sixteen stolen vehicles.
Investigation Began with Pitampura Car Theft
The case started in August last year when a car was stolen from Pitampura in Delhi. Police launched a thorough investigation into this theft. Their efforts soon uncovered a larger criminal network operating across state lines.
Tip-Off Leads to Jalandhar Raid
During the probe, investigators received specific intelligence. They learned that a receiver of stolen vehicles was actively operating from Jalandhar in Punjab. This individual was reportedly in possession of several vehicles stolen from Delhi.
Acting swiftly on this tip-off, a dedicated police team conducted a raid in Jalandhar on December 25. The operation led to the apprehension of a 42-year-old man identified as Damandeep Singh. Singh was running a second-hand vehicle business. From his premises, police successfully recovered four stolen vehicles.
Two More Accused Apprehended
The arrest of Damandeep Singh provided crucial leads. Police subsequently arrested two more individuals connected to the gang.
Arvind Sharma, aged 38, was taken into custody. He is accused of preparing forged vehicle documents to facilitate the illegal sales. Amandeep Singh, aged 39, was also arrested. He allegedly acted as a vital link between buyers and sellers within the network.
Total Recovery Reaches Sixteen Vehicles
Information provided by the arrested accused proved invaluable. Based on their statements, police were able to locate and seize additional stolen vehicles. This brought the total number of recovered vehicles to sixteen.
