In a decisive early morning operation, the Dwarka Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the Delhi Police successfully arrested two suspected members of the notorious Lagarpuria gang following a brief but intense exchange of gunfire in the Shyam Vihar area. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, resulted in one of the accused sustaining a bullet injury to his leg during the confrontation.

Intelligence-Led Operation Targets Wanted Suspects

According to official statements from the Delhi Police, the operation was meticulously planned and executed based on specific and actionable intelligence inputs regarding the movements of the accused individuals. Manhunt Culminates in Dramatic Encounter

Given the grave and violent nature of the offence, authorities launched an extensive manhunt to locate and apprehend the suspects. Acting on precise human intelligence, a specialized police team led by Inspector Manish Yadav intercepted the suspects near the Urban Extension Road (UER) at approximately 5:35 am on Sunday.

The accused were identified as Rocky, aged 22, and Sumit, also known by the alias Koki, aged 24. Police reports indicate that Rocky and Sumit were traveling on a motorcycle at the time of the interception. When the police team challenged them to surrender peacefully, Rocky allegedly responded by opening fire at the officers.

Rocky fired three rounds from his weapon. These shots narrowly missed several police personnel but struck the bulletproof vest worn by Head Constable Manish, underscoring the perilous nature of the encounter.

Restrained Police Response Leads to Apprehension

In response to the direct threat, the police team, which included Sub-Inspector Jitender, Sub-Inspector Pawan Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Dev Kumar, and other officers, exercised significant restraint. They retaliated with controlled and measured self-defence firing to neutralize the threat.

During the ensuing brief scuffle, Rocky sustained a bullet injury below his left knee and was subsequently overpowered by the police. His accomplice, Sumit, was also successfully apprehended at the scene. Both individuals were found to be in possession of loaded weapons.

Significant Recoveries Made from the Scene

The police conducted a thorough search following the arrest and made several critical recoveries:

  • A 7.65 mm pistol along with two live cartridges was recovered from Rocky, in addition to spent cartridges from the encounter.
  • A country-made firearm with a live cartridge was recovered from Sumit.
  • The motorcycle used by the suspects in the commission of the crime was also seized by the authorities.

The injured accused, Rocky, was immediately provided medical attention and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. All necessary legal proceedings have been initiated to ensure the case moves forward through the judicial system. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Delhi Police to combat organized crime and ensure public safety in the national capital region.
