Delhi Police Arrests Five Gang Members in Major Crime Crackdown
Delhi Police conducted two significant operations this month, targeting organized crime networks in the capital. Officers arrested four alleged members of the Sonu Dariyapur gang and separately apprehended a key operative from the Kapil Sangwan gang.
Airport Arrest of Proclaimed Offender
On January 9, the Special Cell of Delhi Police intercepted Manoj Rathee at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Rathee, aged 33, is an alleged active member of the Kapil Sangwan gang, also known as the Nandu gang.
Police officials stated Rathee had been living abroad as a fugitive. Authorities declared him a proclaimed offender and issued a look out circular for his arrest.
Rathee faces serious charges. He is wanted in connection with a 2021 murder case registered at Najafgarh police station. Multiple Arms Act cases from locations including Baba Haridas Nagar are also pending against him.
Investigators revealed Rathee fled the country after police arrested his associates in February 2024. Those arrests involved a cache of illegal pistols intended for Rathee's use.
Despite being overseas, Rathee allegedly continued working for the Sangwan gang. Police believe he coordinated the procurement of illegal weapons from abroad.
Extortion Module Busted in Outer North Delhi
In a separate operation, police dismantled what they describe as an active extortion module of the Sonu Dariyapur gang. This action occurred in Outer North Delhi on the night of January 16.
Acting on specific intelligence, a specialized patrolling team deployed near the Shamshan Ghat area on Khera Khurd Road. Around 10:10 PM, the team noticed three men on a motorcycle behaving suspiciously.
Officers intercepted the motorcycle and conducted a search. They recovered illegal firearms during this search. Police detained the three individuals immediately.
The Narela Industrial Area police station registered a First Information Report under the Arms Act. The arrested men were identified as Rajat alias Gabbru, Anurag alias Hunny, and Aryan. All three are 22-year-old residents of Delhi.
During interrogation, these suspects provided information about another associate. Police conducted a follow-up raid and arrested Sushil Bist, aged 27.
Bist has an extensive criminal record. Police describe him as a habitual offender involved in 34 previous cases. His history includes charges of robbery, snatching, and violations of the Arms Act.
Gang Activities and Investigation Details
Investigators confirmed all four arrested men are active members of the Dariyapur gang. They were allegedly running extortion rackets targeting businessmen in Rohini and other parts of Outer North Delhi.
Police have remanded the accused to custody for two days. During this period, officers aim to achieve several objectives:
- Trace the source of the recovered weapons
- Recover more arms allegedly hidden at various locations
- Identify other gang members involved in criminal activities
- Determine potential extortion targets the gang was pursuing
These coordinated operations demonstrate Delhi Police's continued focus on combating organized crime. The arrests target both operational gang members on the ground and key figures attempting to evade justice.
