Delhi Police Nab Three Men in Rs 20 Lakh Extortion Case

Delhi Police have arrested three individuals, including the alleged mastermind, for attempting to extort Rs 20 lakh from a scrap dealer in Rohini. The accused threatened the trader with a public shooting if he failed to pay the demanded amount.

Swift Police Action Follows Complaint

The case unfolded on January 15 when Rajesh Kumar, a 52-year-old scrap trader residing in Rohini's Sector 11, received a threatening phone call. An unknown caller demanded Rs 20 lakh and issued a chilling ultimatum.

The caller warned Kumar that he would be shot in public within 24 hours if the money wasn't paid. To intensify the threat, the caller referenced a recent firing incident in West Delhi's Paschim Vihar area.

Despite Kumar explaining his heart condition to the caller, the threats continued the following day. The caller allegedly stated that gang members would personally visit to collect the cash.

Victim's Fear Leads to Police Intervention

Fearing for his safety, Kumar confined himself to his home before approaching the police on January 16. Authorities at Shahbad Dairy police station promptly registered a First Information Report.

The FIR included sections related to extortion and criminal intimidation. Police officers emphasized their commitment to protecting citizens from such threats.

Technical Investigation Uncovers Suspects

Investigators immediately analyzed call detail records from the extortion number. They tracked the handset's International Mobile Equipment Identity, revealing crucial information about the device.

The same device had been used with two other mobile numbers that were switched off to avoid detection. Further analysis led police to a number registered in Rohini.

Using technical surveillance, live location tracking, and ground intelligence, police conducted a raid and made three arrests within hours of the complaint.

Arrested Individuals Identified

Police arrested Chirag Mahendru (25), Ashutosh Kumar Pandey (26), and Ankit Mishra (26), all residents of Rohini. According to investigators, Chirag served as the alleged kingpin of the operation.

The other two suspects reportedly assisted him in making the extortion calls. Police are continuing their investigation to determine if the accused were involved in other extortion attempts in North Delhi.

Police Advice to Citizens

Authorities have urged people to report such threats immediately without giving in to intimidation. They emphasized that swift reporting enables faster police action and better protection for potential victims.

The successful resolution of this case demonstrates how prompt complaints combined with technical investigation can lead to quick arrests in extortion cases.
