Delhi Police Arrest Serial Offender After Rescuing Kidnapped Teen from Sexual Assault
In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. The accused, who was already absconding in connection with another rape case registered in Rohini, was apprehended while attempting to flee to Bihar.
Timeline of the Crime and Investigation
The incident began when the girl was approached by an unknown individual on a black motorcycle at the Jahangirpuri metro station. According to police reports, the man took her to a hotel where the sexual assault occurred. A formal complaint regarding the kidnapping was lodged at a police station in Central Delhi on April 4.
The following day, on April 5, the victim was successfully located and rescued at the Shadipur metro station. Her medical examination later corroborated the allegations of sexual assault, leading authorities to register a case under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Meticulous Police Work Leads to Arrest
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh detailed the investigative efforts. "Our team meticulously examined CCTV footage from Jahangirpuri metro station to Murthal," he stated. The footage revealed that the accused first took the girl to a hotel in Murthal for food.
During the return journey, the girl began feeling drowsy. The perpetrator suggested she rest and subsequently took her to another hotel near Jahangirpuri metro station, where he booked a room. Police traced the motorcycle using a partial number plate visible in the CCTV recordings.
The vehicle's owner informed investigators that his bike was being used by a friend and provided the friend's address. Although the accused initially fled, he was tracked down to Kashmere Gate on April 10, just as he was planning to escape to Bihar. He was promptly taken into custody.
Accused's Criminal History and Confession
During interrogation, the arrested individual confessed to his involvement in multiple prior criminal cases. He admitted to being a fugitive in a rape case filed at a police station in Rohini, where he had previously been declared a proclaimed offender.
Further investigation uncovered his involvement in several other offenses, including cases under the Arms Act and the Gambling Act. This pattern of criminal behavior highlights the severity of the charges and the importance of his apprehension.
In accordance with Supreme Court directives aimed at protecting the privacy of sexual assault survivors, the identity of the victim has not been disclosed. The case continues to be under active investigation as authorities work to ensure justice is served.
