Delhi Court Hands Life Sentence to Father for Heinous Crime Against Daughter
A court in New Delhi has delivered a powerful verdict, sentencing a 37-year-old man to life imprisonment. The man was found guilty of repeatedly raping his own 11-year-old daughter over a prolonged period spanning 2020 and 2021.
Court Condemns Betrayal of Sacred Relationship
Presiding over the case, Additional Sessions Judge Amit Sahrawat pronounced the sentence on January 9. The court described the father's actions as having "shamefully shattered the most sacred relation of humanity." This strong language reflected the gravity of the betrayal.
The convict faced charges under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which deals with aggravated penetrative sexual assault. The court found him guilty of rape under this stringent legislation designed to protect minors.
Prosecution Demands Maximum Punishment
During the proceedings, Special Public Prosecutor Aaditya Kumar argued forcefully for the maximum penalty. He stated that the nature of the crime had "shaken the conscience of society." The court agreed with this assessment completely.
Judge Sahrawat emphasized that such repeated offences must be met with an "iron hand." The court's firm stance sent a clear message about the seriousness with which it views crimes against children.
Aunt Receives Leniency Despite Involvement
The prosecution also sought conviction for the convict's sister, who is the victim's aunt. She faced accusations of assisting in the destruction of evidence related to the assaults.
While acknowledging her involvement, the court chose to grant leniency after considering mitigating factors. The aunt is a mother of two children, which influenced the court's decision. She received an order to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 instead of facing imprisonment.
Court Addresses Survivor's Trauma and Awards Compensation
The court paid special attention to the severe psychological impact on the young survivor. The victim shared that she continues to suffer from trauma and remains haunted by "horrible memories" of the abuse.
Recognizing the lasting damage, Judge Sahrawat declared this a fit case for financial restitution. The court awarded the victim Rs 10.5 lakh in compensation to support her recovery and future needs.
This comprehensive verdict addresses both punishment for the perpetrator and support for the survivor, reflecting the court's commitment to justice in cases of child sexual abuse.
