Delhi Police Launches Investigation into Anand Vihar Cafe Over Dating Scam and Extortion Allegations
In a significant crackdown on fraudulent activities, Delhi Police has initiated a comprehensive probe into the operations of a cafe located in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area. The establishment is under scrutiny for its alleged involvement in a sophisticated dating scam, where unsuspecting victims were lured to the premises and subsequently subjected to overcharging and extortion.
Police Seek License Revocation and Premises Sealing
Authorities have taken decisive action by formally writing to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials, urging them to revoke the cafe's health trade license and seal the premises. This move underscores the seriousness of the allegations and aims to prevent further criminal activities at the location.
Multiple Complaints and Violent Incidents Reported
According to police reports, multiple complaints have been filed against the cafe, primarily concerning inflated billing for food and beverages. In one particularly distressing case, a man was allegedly assaulted after meeting a woman through a popular dating application. The woman had specifically requested their meeting to take place at the Anand Vihar cafe.
Upon his arrival, the victim was presented with an exorbitantly high bill. When he attempted to leave without paying the unreasonable charges, he was reportedly attacked by individuals associated with the establishment.
Friend's Intervention Leads to Further Violence
The situation escalated when the victim contacted a friend for assistance. The friend rushed to the scene and allegedly witnessed the victim being assaulted by a group of three to four people who were aggressively demanding money. When the friend intervened to help, he too was subjected to verbal abuse and physical beating.
Both victims eventually dialed the emergency helpline to report the incident, prompting police intervention and subsequent investigation.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
A senior police officer confirmed that three separate cases have been registered against the cafe owner in connection with these incidents. Law enforcement authorities are taking stringent action against not only the owner but also against the women who allegedly enticed customers to visit the cafe under false pretenses.
The investigation continues as police work to uncover the full extent of the scam and ensure that all responsible parties are held accountable under the law.
