Teenager Fatally Struck by Speeding Dumper Truck in Dehradun; Driver Apprehended After Police Investigation
A tragic road accident in Dehradun has claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy, who was mowed down by a speeding dumper truck on the Raipur-Kaddukhal road in the Maldevta area. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, and the driver has since been arrested, as confirmed by police authorities on Monday.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to Raipur circle officer Reena Rathod, the accident took place around 7:45 PM on Sunday. The victim, identified as Shivam Kumar, a Class 10 student, was walking back home from a local market when the dumper truck struck him from behind. The impact was so severe that he died on the spot, and the driver immediately fled the scene, leaving the community in shock.
Community Outrage and Road Blockade
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the boy's family members and local residents expressed their anger by blocking the road. They demanded strict legal action against the accused and initially refused to allow police to take the body for a postmortem examination. "We were later able to take possession of the body around 11:30 PM after assuring them of legal action against the absconding accused," stated Rathod, highlighting the tense situation that unfolded late into the night.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Police swiftly launched an investigation, examining CCTV camera footage from the area. This led them to track the truck and the driver a few kilometres away from the accident spot. The accused driver, Dharmendra, a resident of Dehradun, was arrested late Sunday night. A case has been registered under BNS section 105, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, ensuring that the legal process is set in motion.

On Monday, Mussoorie BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi visited the bereaved family at their residence in Sherki village of Maldevta. He offered his condolences and assured the family of government support during this difficult time.
