The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted a swift police response.
Police Investigation Underway
Barpeta Superintendent of Police Pushkin Jain confirmed the robbery, stating that while the exact value of the stolen property remains undetermined, initial estimates place it in the crores. "At present, a detailed inventory of the shop’s stock has not yet been prepared, making it difficult to determine the exact value of the stolen items," Jain explained. "The precise amount can only be confirmed after the FIR is prepared and a thorough assessment of the losses is completed. Further details will be shared once the investigation progresses and verified information becomes available."
Details of the Robbery
According to police reports, four to five armed robbers were involved in the incident. They allegedly threatened shop employees, creating a scene of panic. To prevent any resistance, the robbers reportedly tied the hands of employees and gagged them. In a further act of intimidation, they also snatched the wallets and mobile phones of the staff members before proceeding with the theft.
