A foreign visitor's trip to the iconic city of the Taj Mahal took an unexpected turn when he was arrested by police at the local airport. The incident, which highlights stringent security protocols, occurred after ammunition was discovered in his luggage during a routine check.
Security Check Uncovers Ammunition
The episode unfolded on December 14 at Kheria Airport in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The Danish tourist was preparing to board a flight to Bengaluru when security personnel, during standard screening procedures, allegedly detected three live cartridges within his baggage. The authorities were immediately alerted, leading to the tourist's detention.
Father and Son Taken Into Custody
Providing details of the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (City), Syed Ali Abbas, explained that the Danish national had originally traveled from Bengaluru to Agra with his son for sightseeing. They were returning to Bengaluru on Sunday when the discovery was made. Initially, both the father and the son were taken into custody for verification and questioning.
After the investigative process, the son was released. However, a formal case was registered against the father. During interrogation, the accused claimed that he possessed a valid arms licence and that the cartridges had been inadvertently left in his bag by mistake.
Official Procedures and Embassy Notification
The local police have followed due protocol in the matter. The Embassy of Denmark has been informed about the arrest and the circumstances surrounding it. The case remains under investigation as authorities verify the claims made by the detained tourist regarding the arms licence.
