Daltonganj LPG Blast: Agency Owner Arrested, Missing Cylinders Recovered

In a significant development following a devastating explosion, the police in Daltonganj have arrested the owner of the LPG distribution agency at the center of the incident. Ajay Kumar Sah, the 47-year-old proprietor of the Kutmu Indane gas agency, was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Charges and Legal Action

Jyoti Lal Rajwar, the officer-in-charge of the Town police station, confirmed that Sah has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Essential Commodities Act. This legal action comes after a thorough investigation into the explosion that rocked the agency's stockyard on Sunday, March 15.

The blast occurred in the basement room of a building located at Bairya More in Daltonganj, where Sah had allegedly been storing LPG cylinders illegally. The incident resulted in injuries to four individuals and caused widespread alarm in the local community.

Recovery of Missing Cylinders

In a parallel breakthrough, the police successfully traced and recovered all 43 LPG cylinders that had gone missing from the blast site on Monday. This included 10 commercial cylinders among the total. The recovery operation was conducted from various locations around the area.

"We recovered 26 cylinders from the Bairya More Bazar Samiti shed, 10 from a four-wheeler in the same vicinity, and the remaining seven were brought to the police station late on the evening of March 15, following the explosion," stated Officer Rajwar. "All 61 cylinders will be presented as exhibits in the court of law."

Police Investigation Findings

Police sources revealed that it was Sah himself who had removed the cylinders from the blast site in an attempt to conceal evidence. "He committed multiple offenses," explained a police source. "First, he stocked cylinders illegally. Then, he tried to obliterate the evidence by shifting them. He also attempted to mislead the police during the investigation."

The discovery of the missing cylinders led to the suspension of nine police officers on Monday for dereliction of duty. This disciplinary action was taken when it was confirmed that out of the 61 cylinders present at the time of the blast, 43 had mysteriously disappeared by Monday morning.

Broader Implications

This case highlights serious concerns about the illegal storage of hazardous materials and the enforcement of safety regulations. The arrest and subsequent legal proceedings against Sah serve as a warning to others who might engage in similar dangerous practices. The police have emphasized their commitment to ensuring that all evidence is properly documented and presented in court to secure a conviction.

The incident has sparked discussions about regulatory oversight and the need for stricter monitoring of LPG distribution agencies to prevent such dangerous situations in the future.
