A young cyclist lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident during dense fog conditions in Jharkhand's Chatra district on Tuesday. The victim has been identified as Dhiraj Kumar Yadav, a 26-year-old resident of Harshnathpur village.
Fatal Journey Home in Poor Visibility
The incident occurred in the Simaria block when Yadav was returning to his home from Piri village. According to eyewitness accounts, the area around the Sheela police picket was enveloped in thick fog, severely reducing visibility for all commuters on the road.
Speeding Vehicle Rams Cyclist, Driver Flees
Amid the challenging weather conditions, a fast-moving vehicle struck the cyclist with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that Dhiraj Kumar Yadav died on the spot. Showing no regard for the life lost, the driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene, leaving the victim behind.
Upon receiving information about the tragic event, personnel from the Sheela police station quickly arrived at the location. They have since launched a full investigation into the matter.
Police Probe Aims to Trace Vehicle
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harishchandra Tirwar of the Sheela police picket confirmed the details and stated that the investigation is actively progressing. "Further probe is on to trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run," OC Tirwar said, underscoring the police's efforts to find the responsible driver.
The accident highlights the extreme dangers posed by speeding in adverse weather conditions, especially during the winter months when fog is prevalent across northern and eastern India. It serves as a grim reminder for drivers to exercise utmost caution, reduce speed, and use appropriate lighting when visibility is poor.
