Cyber Cell Arrests Man from Rewa for Offensive Post Targeting Akhilesh Yadav's Daughter
The Cyber Cell of Kanpur Police has arrested a 32-year-old man from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly editing and sharing a photograph of Akhilesh Yadav's daughter along with vulgar and derogatory comments. The accused, identified as Nageshwar Singh Baghel, was taken into custody after a detailed investigation triggered by a complaint lodged at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Kanpur Commissionerate.
Complaint and Legal Provisions Invoked
The complaint stated that a Facebook user had shared an altered image of the daughter of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The post contained misleading and offensive remarks that allegedly harmed her reputation and dignity as a woman. Based on the complaint, Case No. 38/2026 was registered under multiple legal provisions: Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which covers words, gestures or acts intended to insult a woman's modesty or violate her privacy; Section 336(4) of the BNS, which pertains to forgery intended to damage a person's reputation; and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, which addresses violations of privacy in cyberspace.
Investigation and Arrest
During the investigation, police examined technical data obtained from the social media platform, along with digital evidence and other electronic records. Based on these findings, the Cyber Crime Police identified and arrested the accused following due legal procedure. The arrested individual, Nageshwar Singh Baghel, is the son of Lal Mani Baghel and a resident of Purwa Kalyanpur village, Kanchanpur post, Panwar police station area in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh.
Police Commissioner's Statement on Women's Safety
Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal emphasized the Kanpur Commissionerate Police's commitment to protecting the dignity, respect and safety of women. He stated that sharing edited images, false information, offensive comments or any content on social media that damages a woman's reputation is a punishable offence, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved.
