In a brazen theft that threatens to disrupt essential water supply, unidentified thieves targeted a crucial water infrastructure project in a Lucknow village. Around 400 metres of expensive copper wire, integral to a solar panel system, was stolen from a water tank constructed under the central government's flagship 'Har Ghar Jal Jeevan Mission'.
Theft Strikes Late at Night
The incident occurred in Udaipur village, falling under the Nigohan police station area. Officials confirmed that the theft took place late on Monday night. The stolen wiring was a critical component of the solar-powered setup used to operate the water tank, raising immediate concerns about the continuity of water supply for the villagers.
Discovery and Police Complaint
Shubham Kumar, the operator of the water tank, made the shocking discovery on Tuesday morning. Upon reaching the site, he found that the wires connected to the solar panels had been severed and stolen. Kumar promptly filed a written complaint at the Nigohan police station, urging action against the unknown culprits.
In his complaint, Kumar emphasized the high value of the stolen copper wire, stating that the act has caused a significant financial loss to the department. He also highlighted the potential inconvenience and hardship the theft could cause to the local residents who depend on the tank for their water needs.
Police Investigation and Response
Law enforcement has swung into action following the complaint. Nigohan Station House Officer (SHO) Anuj Kumar Tiwari stated that legal proceedings have been initiated against unidentified persons. "CCTV cameras installed around the site are being examined and teams have been deployed to trace the suspects. The accused will be arrested soon," SHO Tiwari assured.
The theft not only represents a criminal act but also strikes at the heart of a vital public welfare scheme aimed at providing tap water to every household. The disruption of the solar system could halt the water pumping mechanism, directly impacting daily life in Udaipur village until repairs are made.
