Container Truck Crash Injures 3 on Pune's Talegaon-Chakan Road

A serious road accident on the busy Talegaon-Chakan road in Pune late Monday evening resulted in three people sustaining injuries. The incident involved a container truck that reportedly crashed into four other vehicles, causing significant damage and panic.

Sequence of the Accident

The collision occurred around 8:30 PM on Monday. According to police officials from the Mahalunge MIDC police station, the chain of events began when the container truck driver attempted a dangerous overtaking maneuver. The truck first slammed into a motorcycle being ridden by a 27-year-old gym trainer from Mahalunge who was on his way to Chakan for dinner. The victim suffered severe injuries in the impact.

Following the initial collision, the out-of-control container truck proceeded to ram into three more vehicles. The other vehicles involved were two autorickshaws and another motorcycle. The driver of one auto-rickshaw and the rider of the second motorcycle sustained minor injuries in the subsequent crashes.

Police Action and Investigation

Based on a complaint lodged by the critically injured gym trainer, the Mahalunge MIDC police registered a case against the container truck driver on Tuesday. An investigating officer stated that the truck driver abandoned his damaged vehicle at the accident spot and fled the scene.

"Our investigations are on," the officer confirmed, highlighting that the driver is currently absconding. The container truck was also damaged in the multi-vehicle pile-up.

Road Safety Concerns

This accident has once again raised alarms about road safety on key industrial corridors around Pune, such as the Talegaon-Chakan stretch. The area witnesses heavy traffic of commercial vehicles, especially container trucks, alongside private vehicles and public transport like auto-rickshaws. The incident underscores the perils of reckless driving, particularly improper overtaking by large goods vehicles on busy roads.

Local authorities are continuing their probe to apprehend the accused driver and determine the exact circumstances that led to the dangerous chain-reaction collision.
