In a stark demonstration of how youthful disputes can escalate into criminal acts, three college students allegedly obtained illegal firearms to settle a minor quarrel with a rival group. This incident highlights a troubling shift where some young individuals are turning to weapons instead of peaceful resolution.
Late-Night Police Operation Leads to Arrests
Acting on intelligence, the Mohali Police Crime Branch conducted a late-night crackdown in Kharar. Officers intercepted an SUV with a Noida registration number and apprehended three young men. During the operation, police seized three illegal pistols of different calibers and six live cartridges from the vehicle.
Details of the Seized Weapons
The recovered firearms included a .32 bore pistol, a .315 bore pistol, and a .12 bore pistol. The accused individuals could not provide any valid explanation for possessing these weapons. Authorities immediately arrested them on the spot.
Background of the Accused Students
Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans identified the arrested students as Sachin Singh (22), Sehajpreet Singh (20), and Amanpreet Singh alias Ashu (20). All three were enrolled at a local private college in the area.
Sachin Singh originally hails from Fazilka, while Sehajpreet Singh comes from Amritsar. Both were residing together in Sunny Urban Homes, Kharar. Amanpreet Singh is a resident of Raipur Kalan in Mohali. Police records show that Sachin has one prior case of quarrel registered at Maloya police station. The other two students have no previous criminal history.
The Motive Behind the Gun Procurement
Investigations revealed that the trio allegedly procured the weapons to settle a personal score. This followed a physical altercation with a rival group in Chandigarh's Mauli Jagran area. According to police statements, the students had been planning their retaliatory attack for several months.
Weapons Sourced from Uttar Pradesh
During interrogation, the accused confessed that this was their first attempt at acquiring firearms. They allegedly obtained the pistols from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh back in August 2025. The students had been staying in rented accommodation in Kharar while preparing for their planned attack.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
The Crime Investigation Agency team, led by DSP Rajan Parminder Singh, executed the operation that led to the arrests. Police have registered a case under Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act at Kharar city police station.
SSP Hans confirmed that the youths are currently on police remand. Officers are questioning them intensively to trace the entire supply chain of illegal weapons and identify any other individuals involved in the case. The senior police official indicated that further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
