Court Orders Identification Parade in Coimbatore Gang Rape Case

In a significant development in the Coimbatore gang rape case, Chief Judicial Magistrate K Sivakumar has assigned First Judicial Magistrate N Tamilinian to conduct a test identification parade (TIP) of the three suspects. This judicial process will take place once all the accused, who are currently receiving medical treatment, are discharged from the hospital.

Legal Proceedings and Current Status of the Accused

The order for the identification parade came after the investigating team submitted a formal plea before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate. According to police officials, the TIP is scheduled to be conducted inside the Coimbatore Central Prison as soon as all three men are medically fit to participate.

The three accused, who sustained gunshot injuries to their legs during their apprehension, were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). As of now, T Karuppusamy alias Satheesh (30) and M Guna alias Thavasi (20) have been discharged. However, T Kaleeswaran alias Karthi (20) remains hospitalized as he continues to recover from his gunshot wound.

Case Background and Transfer to Special Court

The horrific incident occurred on the night of November 2, when a 20-year-old postgraduate student and her boyfriend were attacked while sitting in a parked car near Brindhavan Nagar, located behind the Coimbatore airport. The woman was abducted and gang-raped by the three men.

Initially registered at the Peelamedu police station, the case was being heard in the II Judicial Magistrate court, which holds jurisdiction for that police station. The case has now been officially transferred to the additional mahila court for further proceedings. Both the rape survivor and her boyfriend have since been discharged from the hospital after receiving necessary medical care.
