Coimbatore Bomb Threat Hoax: Panic as Emails Target Govt Offices
Panic gripped several government establishments in Coimbatore on Monday morning after a series of threatening emails warned of bombs planted at key public offices. The alarming communications, sent during the early hours, triggered an immediate and large-scale security response across the city.
Details of the Threatening Emails
The emails claimed that 15 RDX explosives filled with cyanide gas had been strategically placed within the premises of the district collectorate, post offices, and passport offices. The sender issued a dire warning, stating that the devices would detonate within three hours and urging the immediate evacuation of innocent people from these locations.
Immediate Security Response
Upon receiving the alerts, the Coimbatore city police swiftly mobilized into action. They deployed the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) along with specialized K9 dog squads to the identified threat zones. Security personnel conducted exhaustive, room-by-room searches at the district collectorate and other high-traffic areas, including the regional passport office and central post offices.
Hoax Declared After Intensive Screening
After hours of intensive screening and meticulous checks, officials confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosives were discovered at any of the targeted sites. The threat was subsequently declared a hoax by the authorities. Investigations are currently underway to trace the IP address and identify the sender of the false threats.
