Lucknow witnessed the late-night arrival of Cockroach Party president Abhijeet Dipke at Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport on Thursday. He is anticipated to join a student protest scheduled at Eco Garden today, though the gathering's fate hangs in balance due to denied permissions.
Arrival and Departure
Dipke, arriving from Pune, landed at approximately 2:20 am. Dressed in a Team India T-shirt, he was seen leaving the airport premises in his car by 2:40 am, heading towards an uncertain engagement with authorities.
Protest Plans and Police Stance
The protest, aimed at voicing student concerns, faces a hurdle as local police have withheld permission. Dipke addressed the media at the airport, stating his intention to appeal to the police for a peaceful demonstration. "We will request the police to grant us permission. Just like in Delhi and Pune, we will hold a non-violent demonstration. Students only want to voice their concerns, which is their constitutional right," Dipke asserted.
He drew parallels to previous protests on June 6 at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and later in Pune, where students demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister. Senior police officials informed TOI that organizers initially sought permission for a protest at Eco Garden in Alambagh from June 12 to June 18. However, after revising the request, they referenced permissions from other locations, including Delhi, leading to approval only for June 12, from 10 am to 4 pm.
Uncertainty Prevails
With police clearance still ambiguous, suspense looms over whether Dipke and his supporters will be allowed to assemble at Eco Garden today. The situation mirrors earlier demonstrations, highlighting ongoing tensions between student activism and regulatory constraints.
