Five CoBRA Personnel Injured in Clash with Maoists in Saranda Forest
In a significant security incident, five personnel from the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were injured during an exchange of fire with Maoist insurgents in the Saranda forest of West Singhbhum district on Wednesday. The gun battle initiated in the northern area of Baliba, within the limits of the Chotanagra police station, before escalating to multiple locations across the hilly terrain, according to police reports. Security forces, including CoBRA units and district police, launched a joint combing operation in Baliba during the early hours of Wednesday. This action was based on intelligence regarding the movement of Misir Besra, a senior Maoist politburo member who carries a bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head.
Besra was reportedly guiding his squad to a safer location when security personnel conducted a raid on the site. Upon spotting the security forces, the Maoists opened fire, prompting the personnel to retaliate in self-defence. The ensuing firefight resulted in injuries to five CoBRA members.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Renu of West Singhbhum provided updates on the injured personnel. Four of the security personnel were airlifted to Ranchi for medical treatment and are reported to be out of danger. The fifth personnel sustained minor splinter injuries and is receiving care locally. SP Renu also mentioned that while there are unverified reports of casualties among the Maoists, these details remain to be confirmed as the operation continues.

Intermittent firing persists between Maoist cadres and security personnel, highlighting the volatile nature of the situation.
