Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared on Saturday that the Uttar Pradesh Police has undergone a historic transformation, becoming a symbol of fear for criminals and a beacon of trust for the common man. He made these remarks while inaugurating the two-day state-level senior police officers' conference, Police Manthan-2025, held at the police headquarters in Lucknow.
A Decisive Shift in Policing Since 2017
The Chief Minister stated that Uttar Pradesh has seen a fundamental change in both the perception and performance of its police force since 2017. He emphasized that this change is not merely an official claim but is validated by the daily experiences of the state's citizens. This transformation, according to Yogi Adityanath, has positioned UP as a national and global model for reform-driven policing.
Outlining his vision for smart policing, the CM detailed that sweeping reforms were implemented across every layer of the police system. These reforms spanned recruitment, training, infrastructure, technology adoption, cyber security, forensic capabilities, and modern operational frameworks.
Building a Future-Ready Police Force
Yogi Adityanath highlighted the massive scale-up in training capabilities. Where capacity was once limited, the state now trains over 60,000 police constables every year within Uttar Pradesh itself. He underscored the expansion of institutional strength, pointing to key achievements:
- Cyber police stations established in all 75 districts of the state.
- Operationalization of 12 forensic science laboratories.
- The establishment of a dedicated forensic university.
He described these as milestones reflecting a future-ready mindset, where policing has evolved from being reactive to becoming proactive and predictive, driven by data and scientific assessment.
Citizen-Centric Initiatives Boost Public Confidence
The CM placed strong emphasis on reforms focused on citizen welfare. He listed several key initiatives that have collectively strengthened public trust while tightening the grip on crime:
- Rollout of the police commissionerate system in major cities.
- Strengthening of emergency response through the UP-112 service.
- Implementation of the Safe City model for women's security.
- Substantial increase in the recruitment of women police personnel.
- Steady progress towards predictive policing models.
Yogi Adityanath stressed the continued need for adopting best practices, embracing innovation, and ensuring time-bound, outcome-oriented implementation at all levels. He called for a policing model that remains firmly centred on citizen welfare, accountability, and professionalism.
Expressing confidence in the deliberations at Police Manthan-2025, the Chief Minister said the conference would help shape clear policy direction, sharpen strategies, and improve on-ground execution. This, he believes, will provide fresh momentum to the comprehensive policing reforms in Uttar Pradesh. He concluded by urging the state police to move forward with resolve to meet emerging challenges and safeguard the public trust they have earned.
